Wax ribbons are the economical choice for everyday barcoding on paper labels. Wax/resin ribbons give sharper, more durable prints on semi-gloss and coated labels. Resin ribbons offer the highest resistance to heat, chemicals and abrasion for synthetic labels in demanding environments.
It depends on the surface and how long the label needs to last. Direct thermal suits short-life uses like shipping and scales; thermal transfer paper and film give crisp, long-lasting prints; synthetic labels (PE, PET, PES) resist moisture and chemicals; textile labels are made for garments.
